An independent African consulting firm, incorporated in Kenya in 2012, working where evidence, field operations and technology meet.
Adalto Africa Limited delivers monitoring, evaluation and learning, research, digital transformation and data systems for governments, development partners, UN agencies and non-governmental organisations across Eastern and Southern Africa.
We were built by people who had spent years doing two things that are usually kept apart: running large field studies, and building the systems that national institutions depend on. That combination is deliberate. An evaluation is only as good as the data that reaches the analyst, and the data is only as good as the field operation and the pipeline that carried it.
We work in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia, Malawi, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mozambique and Nigeria, from a base in Nairobi.
Three things account for most of the difference between a study that gets used and one that gets filed.
The design has to survive contact with the field. Access windows, school calendars and travel distances decide what is possible. We plan the field operation and the design together, not in sequence.
The people collecting data have to be certified, not merely trained. We test enumerators against explicit thresholds and deploy only those who pass.
The findings have to be usable. A report that a programme manager cannot act on in the month they receive it has not finished its job.
Assignment teams are built around the requirement, drawing on a standing bench of evaluation, assessment, statistics and field-operations specialists.
